Solving for Cloud Security
Cloud technology is transforming business as we know it. Yet adoption of cloud technology is slow, in part, due to security concerns. Are these concerns justified? Could it be that security in the cloud is stronger than found in most enterprises? Further, is it possible the cloud is transforming security as we know it? Our panel, led by Rackspace CSO Brian Kelly, is full of unique perspectives of the risks and the successes of cloud-based security. We’ll address what enterprises need to be thinking about in the future (strategy, architecture, governance) to optimize their cloud adoption while protecting their enterprise, and what new security models exist in the cloud today that are delivering trust and confidence. We’ll discuss the importance of cloud vendors sharing cyber incident information among themselves – and the tactics to combat them – and how this contributes to a more secure cloud for everyone. And finally, we’ll address how our panelists are working together to make 3rd party clouds safer as well. Have questions you’d like our panel to answer? Email solve@rackspace.com.

Using the Managed Cloud to Save Hollywood
DigitalFilm Tree, a TV and film production company, leverages the “camera to cloud” movement to disrupt the industry’s traditional, inefficient process for sharing and approving content. Before the cloud, studios had no economical or effective way to collaborate on the terabytes of footage shot every day. DigitalFilm Tree is transforming the collaborative process by using the Rackspace OpenStack private cloud to seamlessly and securely share massive video files over the Internet so filmmakers and their collaborators can review and edit their features in real time. The result is real time and money saved, and their solution is one that can benefit many industries beyond film and TV.

BREAKOUT SESSION 1
The New Normal: Managing the Constant Stream of New Vulnerabilities
It’s 3AM. Do you know what your servers are doing? In this age of increased attacks and highly publicized vulnerabilities, deploying your infrastructure in a secure way is mission critical. In this session, two of the best technical minds from Rackspace will reveal security strategies to focus your spending and reduce your risk. Attendees will leave the session with the knowledge of how to:
  • Build a solid, efficient information security feedback loop focused on detection
  • Handle incidents and drive value from root cause analysis
  • Drive security changes through people, process and technology
  • Weigh trade-offs between security and user experience

Transformation to Modern Data Stores
Hadoop & NoSQL technologies represent the fastest growing areas in the world of analytical data processing. They introduce new architectural patterns and application paradigms in addition to solving the more elemental problem of storing & processing extremely large volumes of unstructured data. While the potential of Hadoop and NoSQL to solve problems that exceed the capabilities of traditional RDBMS technologies is immense, it is critical that the correct platform be chosen for the right use case. It’s also critical to understand (and plan for) the tradeoffs so your big data journey is set-up for success. This session aims to share with the audience our experience in helping hundreds of customers successfully migrate to modern data stores.

CHANDRA SALEM – Senior Big Data Architect, Rackspace

BREAKOUT SESSION 2
The Future of the Cloud
Can you remember the way you hosted applications five years ago? Ten years ago? Were you starting to use virtualization for the first time? Since then a whole lot has changed, and we are at an inflection point today where much more will be changing soon. We are looking at a pile of evidence that shows us that people like the direction the cloud has taken them, and that they want more of the things they love. Can you imagine a world where compute resources are abundant, affordable, and can be used in an instant – within seconds? What if there were no more servers in the future? That world is coming sooner than you think, and we’ll tell you why. Learn the importance of recent networking developments such as SDN and NFV, and what impact that will have on our lives over time. Understand how hardware will change, and what software will look like. How will tomorrow’s software behave? We’ll explain the importance of software to every industry, and what forces will shape the way it’s built, used, and secured. The future will be here before you know it.

Intelligent Data-at-Rest Encryption: Keys to Cloud Security and Compliance with Rackspace
In order to successfully leverage the benefits of cloud resources while meeting cloud security and compliance requirements, IT and business leaders should ask themselves the following questions:
  • How is it possible to meet cloud security and compliance requirements?
  • Can your organisation maintain control of sensitive data within the Rackspace offering?
  • Will the use of this cloud service increase an organisation’s exposure to data security breaches?
  • How will this cloud service reduce your risk profile as it relates to customer information and intellectual property?
  • Is it possible for Rackspace employees see or access your business data or provide access under subpoena to government agencies?
Join CJ Radford as he discusses:
  • Data encryption and key management fit into a broader security framework.
  • Common myths of data encryption (the realities may surprise you).
  • How we restrict access only to those who have appropriate user credentials and privilege.
  • Flexible deployment models with Rackspace as well broader enterprise public, private or hybrid clouds environments.

How Rackspace Makes OpenStack Production-Ready
As companies explore how they can leverage OpenStack to advance their business, they often ask if OpenStack is really “production-ready.” Through co-founding OpenStack, running the world’s largest OpenStack public cloud, and managing OpenStack private clouds for enterprises, we know what it takes to make OpenStack production-ready. In this session, Justin Shepherd, a Rackspace Distinguished Architect, will discuss what that means, including stability, scalability with availability, upgradability and backed with SLAs. You’ll learn how we designed Rackspace Private Cloud powered by OpenStack to be “production-ready” – the platform you can trust to run your mission critical applications.
04:00 PM - 04:40 PM
